First day of school

Each year as my kids go off to school, my anxiety level increases. As they get older they will be more aware of their shortcomings, their fears and disappointments. I'm not sure why my heart focuses on these negative thoughts. I just want to protect their innocent little hearts and minds.

But their excitement to meet their teacher, create new friendships, explore more ideas and learn a new language is what makes kids so magical. I don't know many adults who would go to school where the teacher speaks a different language, you may not know anyone and there is a lot of work required. My kids are simply amazing. They remind me of the excitement not fear, they remind me of the anticipation not the anxiety. Because of them I am a better person.

And then there is the future of our school aged kids, Ashley and Ashton. These two remind me to put the broom down, stop cleaning and play, because before I know it they will all be in school and I won't be swaddling an infant or watching my preschooler make sand pies in the sandbox. Thank you littlest ones for helping me stay in the moment.
